Where is the pump located in the washing machine?

Removing the pump from the housing is easy. The main thing is to know where the drain pump is located in the washing machine and how to remove it from its seat correctly. All the necessary tips and instructions for dismantling are given below.

Pump Removal Paths

In most modern models of washing machines, the pumps are located in the same parts of the body. But they are removed in different ways. This is explained by the design features of machines produced by different manufacturers.

In Ardo, Samsung, Indesit, LG, Beko devices, drain pumps are removed through the bottom of the housing. Owners of household appliances of the above brands can use the following instructions to dismantle the pump:

  • Disconnect the washing machine from the sewer system, water supply and electrical network,
  • Take a slotted screwdriver. Use it to open the technical hatch, which is located in the lower right part of the case,
  • To prevent water from spilling, place a container under the appliance and put a rag under it. When the drain filter opens, water flows out of it,
  • Remove the trash filter. To do this, unscrew the bolt, turn the handle slightly,
  • Look inside through the bottom of the case. If the pump is not visible, it is better to lay the washing machine on its left side,
  • Unscrew the screws holding the drain pump,
  • Turn the pump counterclockwise so that it sinks into the machine body. The device should come off,
  • Disconnect the wires, remove the pipes, loosen the clamps.

After these manipulations, the pump can be easily removed.

Why remove the pump?

Experts say that the drain pump is the heart of the washing machine. Without it, it is impossible to start the water circulation. But, like the heart, the device is subject to damage. The cause is usually dirt that gets in with the waste water. Therefore, for the smooth operation of the equipment, the pump must be cleaned regularly. Contamination of the drain pump is caused by:

  • Use of low-quality detergents,
  • The influx of dirty or too hard water,
  • Getting small pieces of clothing, hair, coins in.

To prevent the pump from clogging, it is not enough to take forgotten items out of pockets and sew buttons well. When washing, it is recommended to place items in special bags. It is also important to regularly remove and wash the garbage filter.

Proper cleaning of the pump

Knowing where the pump is located, you can clean the device yourself. You need to remove dirt from the impeller. To do this correctly, you need to perform a number of actions.

  • Unscrew the screws on the sides using a slotted screwdriver.
  • Find a ring with blades. Remove hair, threads and other debris from it.
  • Check that the part rotates freely.
  • Proceed to cleaning the pump seat, which is called the snail. It should also be cleaned.
  • Remove all debris and wipe the snail clean of scale.
  • Assemble the pump and install it.

If the pump is installed properly, the washing machine should not make any unusual sounds or stop during operation. Regular maintenance of the drain pump, removing dirt and debris from it and adjacent machine elements allows you to extend the service life of the equipment several times.
